Poem XI

We acknowledge the need
For an all-seeing eye
Perceptive and raw to provide
Insight into our weakness.
An outlandish rapacity
For facts and dreams
To calm soothe provide a
Panacea for our sickness.
But this medicine breeds dependence
And creates its own demand.
Before the end of it all
Before the credits roll
We needs must preen
Before our sacred cows
That flicker past in Technicolor
With the face and form of
Perfect health celebrity
Our American dream
An intravenous drip
The apple of the all-seeing eye.
