Poem VI

Humility
A relief from
The outsized demands of ego
Found
Through homage paid
To things larger than the self.
An old woman
On a bench at dawn
Speaks of eternity
More eloquently than
Any text or stone edifice.
A young couple
Who blush at a touch
Showcase more beauty
Than any static image.
One should not feel
Awe
When faced with monuments
Singular things alone
Like all single things.
True largeness is found in
The transitory connections
Of the everyday.
True humility is
To kneel
Before the commonplace.
